Alzheimer’s and dementia care expert Teepa Snow to present no-cost workshops in Portland, Salem and Canyonville. June workshops for family and professional caregivers teach skills that make a difference.
Nationally recognized dementia care and training specialist Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FOATA will present her GEMS™: Using Skills that Make a Difference workshop at three Oregon locations this June. The workshops are free, thanks to funding from the State of Oregon, and are open to family and professional caregivers, first responders and the general public. Dates and locations are June 24th in Canyonville, June 25th in Salem and June 26th in Portland.
The workshops will feature techniques for a Positive Approach™ to Care, developed by the renowned Alzheimer’s and dementia expert. Snow has over 30 years of experience as an occupational therapist and is one of the nation’s leading educators on dementia and brain function. She provides an essential resource for caregivers through training programs that promote quality care for those living with dementia.

The GEMS™ workshops will offer an overview of Snow’s dementia classification model and facilitate an understanding of normal aging and dementia stages. Snow will demonstrate strategies to foster supportive communication between the caregiver and the person being cared for, with a focus on positive outcomes.
What:
Three no-cost workshops for those caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The workshops are also open to professional caregivers, first responders and the general public. CEU Credits are offered for professional caregivers. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a six-hour interactive workshop, led by Snow. The GEMS™ workshops will feature lecture, role-play, discussion, group interaction and problem solving. The workshops are offered at no-cost thanks to state-funded Oregon Care Partners.
