Those who care for people with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia are invited to a free caregivers conference hosted by Oregon Care Partners and the Oregon Health Care Association.
The conference runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at the Ambridge Event Center, 1333 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Both unpaid family caregivers and professional caregivers are welcome; professionals can earn continuing education credits.
Scheduled sessions are:
“Positive Approach to Care” – This session is designed to help caregivers communicate more effectively with patients; it’s based on the work of Teepa Snow, a nationally known dementia educator.
“Laugh with Me: Infusing Humor into Caregiving” – This session will focus on the benefits of using humor to cope with daily challenges.
“Understanding Medicines in Older Adults” – This session will help caregivers know what questions to ask and what effects specific medicines have.
“Psychotropic Medication Use in Older Adults” – This session will explain new strategies and best practices for the use of psychotropic medications, which affect the mind, emotions and behavior.
