Family members caring for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia face practical and social problems that may lead to isolation, frustration or depression. Creating a positive environment for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia is a priority for family members; however, it can be challenging for those with little or no training. Oregon Care Partners is helping family members and professional caregivers address those challenges by providing high quality, no-cost, in-person and online training sessions, including three in Eugene. It is free to anyone working or living in Oregon — whether they’re a family member, first responder or personal caregiver — because Oregon Care Partners is state funded. There are more than 50 free online courses — Activities for Meaningful Dementia Care is one example of the courses offered. There are three free classes in Eugene for individuals caring for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients:
Understanding Medicines in Older Adults, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, La Quinta Inn, 155 Day Island Road.
Challenging Behaviors: Effective Approaches to Common Behaviors in the Non-Dementia Adult Population, 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Eugene Public Library, 100 W. 10th Ave.
