Oregon Care Partners offers free online and in-person classes about creating a positive environment for loved ones with dementia, what to expect as their condition progresses and more.
Caregiving for those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia can be an emotionally and physically taxing job. On Tuesday, April 7, Oregon Care Partners is offering a class, “Living with Alzheimer’s for Caregivers: Early Stage,” from 6 to 8 p.m.
The class is free and open to all caregivers of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients — family members and professionals alike. The workshop will be held at the Hillsboro Community Senior Center, 750 S.E. 8th Ave. To register, call the Alzheimer’s Association 24 hours a day, seven days a week on its help line, 1-800-272-3900.
The class will cover common problems for caregivers, including financial, practical and social problems that can lead to isolation, frustration or depression. Creating a positive environment for loved ones is a priority for family members, but it can be particularly challenging for those with little or no training.
According to a 2009 report by AARP, there are nearly a half million at-home caregivers in Oregon at any given time.
Oregon Care Partners helps caregivers address these challenges and improve the lives of aging Oregonians by providing high quality, no-cost, in-person and online trainings in every corner of the state.
